Yeoval, Molong and the Trip Home

Tuesday the 3 rd we left Peak Hill and drove north about 16km to Tomingley. Turned right there to start heading in the direction of home but we would not be arriving home till the next day. I had planned to do a walk in the Goobang National Park. From the map and brochure it looked like the good walks had easy access to the main road. On further inspection it turned out we had to travel 9km on rough gravel to get to the parking ground for the walk. With the van on the back we thought we would give it a miss. So we had time to check out a couple of small towns before stopping at Molong for the night. First stop was Yeoval. There was of course the mandatory ‘Royal Hotel’. There is a trail of sculptures from Molong up through Yeoval and beyond which are animals on bikes. Every property seems to have their effort. Peak Hill

Monday the 2 nd we left Parkes and drove to Peak Hill.   Firstly checked out the Bogan Weir. Apart from some water in the weir the grounds were very dry and dusty. Linda was not keen on it.   There were two caravan parks. The Double D which was full till Wednesday. I think that was because they do extras like a free breakfast every day and clean your windscreens, campfires at happy hour, all for $29 for a powered site. There is the showground for $20 powered. We decided to go to the Peak Hill Caravan Park for $27 powered. At least they provide scones and jam in the afternoon. After setting up and lunch we walked to the disused gold mine. Yes walked, the park is close by. The first you see is a big open cut mine, but there are several of them.
