Peak Hill
Monday the 2nd we left Parkes and drove to Peak Hill. Firstly checked out the Bogan Weir. Apart from some water in the weir the grounds were very dry and dusty. Linda was not keen on it. There were two caravan parks. The Double D which was full till Wednesday. I think that was because they do extras like a free breakfast every day and clean your windscreens, campfires at happy hour, all for $29 for a powered site. There is the showground for $20 powered. We decided to go to the Peak Hill Caravan Park for $27 powered. At least they provide scones and jam in the afternoon.
After setting up and lunch we walked to the disused gold mine. Yes walked, the park is close by. The first you see is a big open cut mine, but there are several of them.
There are several smaller diggings which are small but you cannot see the bottom of some of them.
Met this fellow as we were walking around.
Then we had a walk around the town. That did not take very long but I liked the old buildings. There is not a lot of business going on by the looks and many shops are closed, like most of the other moderate sized towns.
